Study Leave

UPDATE JULY 2020

Study leave has now been re-introduced and you can start applying for online courses. The process remains the same; any course needs approval from your Educational Supervisor as part of your PDP and the time off needs to be agreed with the practice. Once this has been agreed please submit an application via Intrepid and the usual approval process will be followed.

Study leave can be taken to use the online resources on the NB Medical license which the Deanery has recently offered to all trainees. Please apply through Intrepid as before ensuring you have agreed the time with the practice and the course/resource is agreed with your ES as part of your PDP. The Deanery have advised that NB Medical has replaced  the need to undertake online GP Update or Hot Topics courses.

The study leave year runs from August until the following July. 30 days (60 sessions) is your total allowance. From this total sessions are deducted for structured teaching (group work, induction, topic teaching). The remaining sessions are available for you to organise your own study leave events.  LTFT trainees have study leave time calculated on a pro-rata basis.

Once leave has been approved by your Educational Supervisor as part of your PDP, you must enter the training course and estimated study leave expenses onto Intrepid at least two weeks before the date of the course commencing, entering the named ES spoken to for approval. Study leave will only be approved by the GP Office with these necessary authorisations.
